I have always had a deep love and connection with horses. They were my first subjects when I was learning to draw as a young girl. As I’ve matured I still love to paint them, but I’ve also grown to appreciate all the beauty around me.
Inspiring landscapes from the colourful waters of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, to the Niagara Escarpment, to the local farm land.
The local wildlife have also found there way onto my canvas along with the animals that we share our lives with. The bond between humans and nature is very important to me. I hope people can see that reflected in my work.
My journey continues and will never end as I find more creative avenues to explore.
Sharilyn & Brian Clowes
BIO: Brian and Sharilyn have been partners in life for almost 30 years! Crossing Canada, living overseas, cycling Europe and the Middle East, backpacking Asia Pacific, starting a small farmstead, business and now creative arts! With Brian’s talents for sculpting steel and Sharilyn’s creative use of clay, we are excited to begin combining these 2 mediums into unique pieces for you to enjoy!
Description of work: These Ceramic and Steel ‘bowls’ are each one-of-a-kind creations. Sharilyn creates the base out of stoneware clay and adds interesting glazes. Brian then creates accents out of metal – unique to the look and shape of each bowl. They can be displayed as is on a table top, or custom holders can safely stand them upright or mount to a wall.

While whimsical clay sculpture has been my focus for some time, I switch my preference to painting in the summer. The island archipelago of Georgian Bay’s eastern shore is a unique and compelling destination for me. The geologic features of that environment should impress us for the timeless Canadian shield, its special beauty and endurance. Also the Niagara Escarpement reminds us of our origins. Both are areas to be admired.
My larger paintings are in oil and on display north of Parry Sound, Pointe au Baril specifically. For me, acrylics are great for smaller pieces when I want to produce something quickly, perhaps for studies of what I would paint later in oil. My permanent residence is in Georgian Bluffs, overlooking Georgian Bay, in a community of established, competent artists who keep me on my toes!
When the summer is over I will likely pick up my winter enjoyment of imaginative clay sculpture, permanently on display at the artist cooperative here in Owen Sound.

This program is extremely popular and we have long waiting lists! We are hoping to accept more guests monthly in the future. When we are looking for new members, we often look at the list of past guest members.
