Lara Bird
Laura Bird is a multidisciplinary artist working across pointillism, watercolour, acrylic, figure drawing, and mixed media abstraction. Her practice explores repetition, layered mark-making, and intuitive process. Drawing on extensive professional careers in graphic and exhibition design, and as a singer-songwriter, her work reflects rhythm, restraint, and compositional clarity.
Exhibition Description
Resilience by Laura Bird, presents two interconnected bodies of work shaped by repetition, time, and attentive mark-making. Created during and following the global pandemic, these pointillist works reveal resilience not as force, but as presence – formed gradually through patience, reflection, and return.

I was born many years ago in, what is now called, The Czech Republic. Fewer years ago, but still very many, my family emigrated to Canada.
My mother and my grandfather were superb painters and excellent colourists, and I am lucky to be able to use what their genes provide for me. My grandfather is the celebrated Austrian Painter, Albert Paris Gutersloh. Another personal influence has been the friendship of the inimitable Canadian artist Lorne Wagman.
The innate Beauty and Energy of the subject I chose to paint – be it landscape, portrait, still life, abstract expression or figurative ensembles – is what grabs me as I work. At this time, I am fascinated by flowers and people’s faces.

Primarily an acrylic landscape artist, yet always up for a challenge, I work to improve my craft and paint a wide variety of subjects.
My paintings are inspired by the people and places I visit and our ever changing seasons.

Guest Artist Schedule
About The Guest Artist Program
The Guest Artist program at the Owen Sound Artists’ Co-operative is a great way participate with our group. Monthly, we host three artists in a dedicated spot in our gallery. This program is extremely popular and we have long waiting lists! We are hoping to accept more guests monthly in the future. When we are looking for new members, we often look at the list of past guest members.
How To Apply
Our Legacy Gallery Committee juries work submitted monthly, and if the work seems to be a good fit with our establishment, a month is determined with the input of our membership member. We ask potential guests to fill out a guest artist’s application. Please plan to bring work in for jurying two to three days before the monthly committee meeting and arrange to pick up the next day. (Contact the store manager for details on the monthly date).
A good representation of your work must be submitted and appear as it would for sale and display in the store, i.e. all paintings, drawings must be titled, framed and/or glazed and ready for hanging. All work must be intended for sale. No more than 6 items please. Any relevant information regarding working methods, materials and pricing should accompany your work along with a brief artist’s biography or resume. When choosing you pieces, think of a body of cohesive work, rather than all the different styles or disciplines you practice.
