Iris Dorton has been making pots full time since 2003. With clay, it was love at first touch – just months after taking her first pottery class, she walked away from her career in healthcare advertising and hasn’t looked back!
She makes a full line of contemporary tableware that is both colourful yet neutral enough to let the food take centre stage. Working primarily in stoneware, Iris has developed a line of satin glazes that are a delight to the eye and to the touch. She hopes that using her pottery will enhance those everyday moments in our lives – like enjoying your morning coffee or tea in a carefully considered handmade mug. The natural motifs in her work make it perfect for the home or cottage.
Iris spends time every summer in Big Bay, and is orienting her ceramics practice to be able to spend more time in the Owen Sound area. She currently operates Blue Iris Studios, a storefront studio and retail shop in Guelph.
