The Workshop has opened a flow through endowment fund with Community Foundation Grey Bruce.
To help small businesses succeed, CF Grey Bruce allows access to the funds donated to the endowment fund for the first few years. Eventually, the fund will generated an endowment for an art student from Grey and Bruce County entering or graduating from a post secondary arts institute.
Consider a monetary contribution. Charitable Tax Receipts will be issued for donations over $20. Please make cheques payable to Community Foundation Grey Bruce, and indicate on the cheque that it is for Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op Workshop. The Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op has been a thriving business for 24 years. The base of 45 members is integral to the long running success of this gallery. In the past few years the Co-op has become more involved in community-based projects, which segues into their newest venture!
A dedicated and small group of members are working towards opening The Workshop, Centre for the Advancement of Craft. This craft based studio will have 6 jewellery benches, 6 potters wheels, kilns, and a printing press, plus all the equipment to support these 3 disciplines. There will also be a swing space for other teaching opportunities.
This Workshop Project is a community arts driven effort to bring the makers experience to our region. Arts are integral to a vibrant community and a growing economy. The Co-op believes in the creation of a space where people can come together and get their hands dirty, a space for making and creating and teaching that will become a focal point for arts in the community, and an economic driver for the region.
There are several prongs of income; Community classes would be offered, as well as an opportunity for local artists to teach. Youth and children programing will be scheduled. Makers are able to rent time to use the specialized equipment. An exciting resident program will be offered, that would allow students from out of town, graduating in the arts, the prospect of continuing their art experience without investing in major equipment. Resident programs in the arts are proven to help emerging artist succeed at their craft.
We have rented the building adjacent to the Co-op, and have begun fundraising and grant writing for this relevant and community desired project! We appreciate your help in this exciting venture!
