On leave until April 2025

Sylvia Kristina Elliott was born in Germany, grew up in Toronto and for the past twenty years has lived by the shores of Lake Huron near Tobermory on the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula.  At midlife the opportunity to realize a long-held desire to study fine art was made possible and she attended York University (Toronto).

Sylvia’s artwork is included in collections in many countries and she has won several awards.  In the last few years her work has been exhibited in shows at the BPSA Co-op Gallery/Red Schoolhouse Gallery (Ferndale), Deep Water Gallery (Wiarton), Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op Gallery, Southampton Arts Centre, Circle Arts Gallery (Tobermory).  Sylvia has organized and curated art shows for Sources of Knowledge at the Parks Canada Visitor Centre in Tobermory.  She is a member of the Bruce Society of Artists and Co-op Gallery, Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op Gallery, Southampton Arts and Milkweed Collective (Toronto).

I am currently working and playing with mixed media collage with the addition of either cold wax or encaustic.  During the process of recombining materials, I make decisions based on colour, shape, flow and welcome the contribution that ‘serendipity’ plays in the outcome.  The layering allows me to simultaneously reveal and conceal and ultimately bring cohesion to disparate parts, creating a new whole – in a sometimes surprising, sometimes challenging, sometimes beautiful way.
