Stephen Corner
Stephen Corner has ben a full time potter for the past sixteen years. Stephen works with both porcelain and stoneware clay bodies, which he fires in a propane-fired kiln in a reduction atmosphere to 2350ºF.
Stephen makes his own glazes and uses locally sourced materials where possible. Local clay, once dried and screened of organic material is mixed in a 50/50 ratio with apple wood ash to create a glaze. This glaze is then brushed onto the surface of a pot and when fired, it melts creating rivulets and pools.
The potential to forge a bond between a ceramic object and the person is intriguing. It pushes Stephen to keep investigating the endless possibilities of clay to create objects that can become part of one’s rituals.
After all, when we open the cupboard, don’t we all reach for our favourite cup?
Stephen’s work consisted of both sculptural and functional ware.
All functional ware is oven-proof, microwaveable and dishwasher safe.
