Morag Budgeon graduated from Georgian college Jewellery and Metalworks Program in Barrie, Ontario in 1994. While attending, she won numerous awards and honours. After graduation she took on two momentous tasks, first to create a jewellery studio, and second, to start a family. Many years later, she has a successful business and three beautiful children.
Morag creates her jewellery from start to finish. She designs and fabricates each piece in her home based studio in Owen Sound. Using sterling silver with accents of 14K yellow gold, gold fill, brass and copper, her work is identifiable as her own.
In 2010, Morag introduced The Fine Craft Christmas Show to Owen Sound. Recently this annual event moved to the Harmony Centre and expanded to host over 55 vendors. This popular show coincides with the Santa Claus Parade in November.
Morag accepted the managing position at the Artists’ Co-op in 2012, as well as the lead on a four year Trillium Grant. The learning curve and challenges presented with this new channel have added fresh dimension to her skill set! The work on the Legacy Project Trillium Grant, as well as other grants, including the Community Foundation, have allowed Morag to facilitate workshops, mentorships, exhibits and public art utilizing the youth of Grey and Bruce. High school students and emerging artists have benefitted from exposure to otherwise mysterious art practices, as well as having the opportunity to show and be proud of their work and skills.
Organizing and attending craft shows, creating jewellery, working with youth, creating partnerships in the community, and enjoying a full family life, Morag has achieved a full and rewarding life and career in Owen Sound.
