Jen Klemm was born in Owen Sound, where she first began to take an interest in capturing the wonders around her through various artistic outlets, such as poetry, photography, drawing, painting, and sculpture. After graduating from the OSCVI in 2000, she travelled abroad and then enrolled at the Ontario College of Art and Design as a Drawing & Painting Major. During her studies, she completed her thesis in Florence, Italy, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Jen then attended Nipissing University in North Bay, where she completed her Bachelor of Education in 2008.
Jen has been a permanent member of The Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op since 2010, where she exhibits her photography. Her growing portfolio of photographs act as a collection of mementos from various adventures to Italy, France, England, Spain, Ontario, Alberta, and her beloved Grey and Bruce counties. Jen’s most desired subjects stem from organic and man-made patterns, as well as the beauty of exploration and nostalgia found in pavement stains and such every-day wonders. Jen was once a member of the Next Generation group of exhibiting youth artists, hosted by The Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op, in the Legacy Gallery. Since her debut in the Legacy Gallery, Jen has worked alongside management at the co-op, helping to plan and facilitate programming, via a Trillium Grant, for youth in the arts, while also sitting on The Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op Board of Directors.
In addition, Jen currently works as a secondary teacher and as college faculty in the Owen Sound area, and hopes one day to be able to enjoy her summers producing art, exploring various creative processes, and “… soaking up the rich atmosphere this area has to offer”. She has supported many secondary school programs, involving visual arts, such as set design for school theatre productions, back-wood camping trips, student exhibitions, professional workshops, and community mural projects.
