Elaine has been working as a painter since 1998. Watercolour landscapes and learning about design and how to draw were her focus. Growing up in a farming community near Owen Sound, her path lead her south to the bigger centers to gain some employment as a Medical Laboratory Technician. In 2000 her path lead her back to Owen Sound to share a Church studio home with her husband and to immerse herself in art.
The last four years her inspiration has been figures, horses and landscapes in a variety of mediums. Mixed media lends itself to more play and less rigidness although still trying to achieve good design. She tries to have a story to jump off from and play around with layers and textured back grounds using maps, ephemera, and previous abandoned paintings torn up all add to it. Illustrated Journalling has been a mainstay for her since 1998 and has taken to making her own with whimsical themes using collage and mixed media. Successfully entered in numerous local juried shows as well as having a recent success with her figure collage/mixed media paintings and journals. Her work can be found at the Owen Sound Artists’ Co-op.
Elaine offers art instruction called “Funshops” in her church studio.
