“I have always had a passion to create and work with my hands. Something about seeing the work you’ve completed that is personally fulfilling to me.
I remember as a child having a deep curiosity for the potter’s wheel. Unfortunately, I never considered the idea about being a potter, and it was never encouraged to pursue as a career. Instead, I graduated from the University of Guelph-Humber to receive a Bachelors of Applied Science in Kinesiology. I lived in Kitchener, ON and worked in the health field for ~5 years, discovering in that time that it was not for me. In 2019, I moved back to my home roots and began my journey in clay. I do not have a formal degree in ceramics, but apprenticed at Gleason Brook Pottery with Master Potter Timothy Smith. I started working for Gleason Brook Pottery in August of 2019, and continue to do so on a part time basis.
My work aims to be functional. I want my pots to be used for everyday use and last for a very long time. I would say my style is very simple, but I love to incorporate colour on my pots to bring them to life. You can find me working on my own line of work at Gleason Brook Pottery. “ ~ Amanda Millar
